FIKE PTO BOARD MEETING/
FIKE PARENT ADVISORY BOARD
August 11, 2015

Present:  Ginger Jablonski, Maria Rosa-Rivera, Michelle Harrell, Alice Pierce, Sam Cohen, George Mount, Laura Klein, Paula Benson, Tim Williford, Hope Newton, Ijeoma, Uwakewe, Lee Ann Madar, Linda Hanson, Mark Holley

1.  Parking lot: The parking lot has been resurfaced and a new row added in back that has increased the total number of parking spaces.  The traffic pattern will be different, but the markings are not yet complete.

2.  Online payment system: There is a new online payment system that can be accessed from the Fike home page.  There is a usage fee for each transaction.

3.  Chromebook fees:  $30, $25, or $20 depending on school lunch status will be collected during the first 2 weeks of school.  Payment will be cash only.

4.  Driver's Ed update:  Friday 8/14 is the last day to drive cars until money comes from the legislature.  There are drivers' ed courses that can be taken online.

5.  Clubs:  An updated list of clubs will be posted on the website soon.  Several new clubs will be available this year, including the Beta club for 9th and 10th graders; also a culinary club advised by a new family consumer science teacher, and possibly a model UN club.

6.  Important dates will be listed on the website and up to date by orientation next Thursday 8/20.

7.  Treasury:  We currently have a balance of approximately $12,000.  The "Friends of Fike" fundraiser, which is the PTO's single fundraiser for the entire school, will kick off on the first day of school, with forms being mailed to all families.  Parents must contribute to the fundraiser by 9/11 in order for their child to receive a "Friends of Fike" t-shirt, which allows the student to leave early on 9/25, for the "Friends of Fike" football game.

8.  Teacher Appreciation will be chaired by Page Smith.

9.  Academic Excellence:  George Mount is chairing and will need volunteers to help him organize the event, which will be Friday, April 15.  The most important thing at this point is to find a speaker.  Anyone who has ideas for a possible speaker should contact George.

10.  Academic Wish list:  Teacher requests for classroom supplies will be listed on the PTO website.

11.  Grant Update:  Last year we funded approximately $12,000 in teacher grants.  The PTO is in an even better position this year to fund grant requests if the "Friends of Fike" fundraiser goes well.  Tim Williford is the grant coordinator.  He will set up the project using Basecamp as he did last year, to allow board members access to and communication about the grant requests. 

12.  Other fundraisers:  Alice Pierce will be organizing "Spirit Nights" at local restaurants such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili's, Chick-fil-A, etc., about once a month.  We were reminded to link our cards to Harris Teeter and Target so Fike can receive a percentage of sales.  Spread the word by sharing messages from the PTO website on social media to remind others.  Also, the counselors will share information on their counseling page.

13.  New student orientation and Open House:  Thursday, 8/20 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  New students report to the auditorium at 6 p.m., returning students arrive at 6:30 and go directly to see their teachers.

14.  News from Mr. Holley:  He only had to hire 5 new teachers over the summer: English, Chemistry, Foods, Special ed, and a physical trainer.
