A product of Wilson County Schools, I graduated from Meredith College in 1979 with Batchelors of Arts degrees in Social Studies and Religion while receiving a secondary social studies teaching certificate.  I went on to complete graduate school at North Carolina State University, receiving my Masters of Arts degree in History in 1988.  In 2003 I became certified by the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards and renewed this certification in 2011.  Bottom line: I like being a student as well as being a teacher!

I began teaching when I was 5 years old.  I was the little girl who lined all her dolls and stuffed animals in rows and played teacher.

My professional career began in 1983 when I started teaching social studies part-time at Hunt High School.  After taking 10 years off to raise a family, I returned to teaching in 1997.

A life-long Wilson County resident, I grew up working in the tobacco fields beside my parents.  I love eastern North Carolina and am proud to help shape its emerging 21st century culture.  My husband, Jimmy, is a retired social studies teacher. We live on our family farm in the Buckhorn/Kenly community.  In the summer I work in my vegetable garden.  We attend Buckhorn United Methodist Church where my husband teaches Sunday School and I work in women's ministries. Together, we have 4 children, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law and a WONDERFUL grandson named Eli.
